CBC 33: Guy Tuneh interview 2 and Brian Bromberg music

http://traffic.libsyn.com/contrabassconversations/CBC_33.mp3

This week’s Contrabass Conversations episode features the second half of our interview with double bassist Guy Tuneh, conducted over a distance of thousands of miles. It was a real pleasure to get to sit down and chat with Guy–he’s a warm, intelligent, and passionate individual, and these traits come through in his speaking just like they do in his bass playing. You can visit him online at www.guytuneh.com. You will also get a chance to hear the great jazz bassist Brian Bromberg perform and hear some bass playing from L.A. bassist Nam Chi Vu. Enjoy!

    What An Artist!
i loved the way that he thinks about the two systems of playing the bass, stop the fight about german or franch bow.
his point: play as goog as you can, the rest is not importent.
    Great person.
    nothing to say ……
i am without words, he is Amazing!

What a person, so strong with his words. i saw that Mr. Tuneh will play in October some concerts with villa musica.
i am living in Munich but i will come to hear & to see him in Mainz.
hope to get to know Mr. Tuneh.
This Interview should be posted in every music school/Orchestra in Germany.
Pupils as teachers should be able to hear & i hope to try to act like they understand the amazing way that this person see the music and how to bring it to everyone (Genius).
we in Germany have so much to learn about the way how to be nice to other people who are doing music.
Mr. Tuneh is a pioneer, showing us someting that most of us dont want to hear, i thing a lot of people are still not ready for this!!!
Thank You Mestro Tuneh for your great importent words.
you give me hope & power to go on with my “friends” at work.

For people who play the bass (and not only bass), this interview
will change ther way of playing.
    it allready changed my way.
thanks god that Maestro Tuneh is able to say his magic words,
it will help to people like me to go on & to be stronger!!
Jason you are doing very importent job, great Tuneh & others
getting stage in your show,go on .

    Great interview!
pleasure to hear someone so intelligent with idees that “normal”
bass player would never think about.
    3 words:
    Great Maestro Tuneh.

Loved the Amazinmg interview but most the part about the auditions!
Only a Great person know how hard is it, and not use this moments to step or make fun on the others.
as a woman i did some auditons, some of them went good but the
orchestra members make fun from us in that day.
i am comming from Germany, if you are a woman or nongerman(& playing bass)
you will have a problem with getting a place in orchestra , Tuneh is saying out loud something very very importent & true!!
    God be with Mr.Tuneh.

when An Artist , great player & awesome peron like Tuneh knowes about it and speak against it – it makes me fill better.
(so its not only in my head)

    Guten Tag Jason!
If everyone would try to be like Mr. Tuneh, the music world would be pure. As you might know, musions can be sometime “little people”.(special when they are not good musion, etc. ..)
Its great that Mr. Tuneh got this stage from you. he is very smart Artist with a lot to say, some one that we can realy learn from him.
Its great that you are giving your stage to people like Maestro
    Tuneh!
love your blog, its getting better from day to day.

    Nicole.

Mestro Tuneh is a great soloist & great chamber musion.
i liked the fact that he call us to work hard (when a great Maestro like him does it, it sounds nice then the people that know saying this) but what to do when
you have no power to work hard. after some time i need time to have for my self, so what to do??

  21. Tonny

    August 19, 2007 at 5:47 am

When i looked at Mr. Tuneh’s bow motion, it looks like he play with
it like in 3 dimensions. his hand i doing a “wave”with the bow.
I’d like to understand this genius way of playing.
Please Jason, if its possible, bring more info about it.
    Thanks.

Very nice, good that Maestro Tuneh see what is going in auditions with us ,the “normal” (non Genius like him) people, amazing that person like this is living among us
and also can understand & fill what is going with us.
he is not living in his own world like the other stars & dont care from the rest of that world.only about there own intrest.
i love people who stay normal ,nice & true also after they got big.
well done Maestro, you have one more fan!

  23. Jon

    August 19, 2007 at 5:03 pm

    very nice.
I am an orchestra bassist, the ideas of Mr. Tuneh are good & his motto is to make art.the problem is, that in orchestra we dont have so much time to work on the music in the way that Mr. Tuneh thinks.
but i’m sure that even if we had the time,we would’nt be able to play like him.
after i had the chance to hear & to see him on stage he is one of the best first class players.(saw him in one of the last concerts in salzburg) For me it is clear,he is, as someone said, one of a kind.!

    BRAVO for the MAESTRO.

hope to see you in salzburg next year.!!

i am interesting to see him alive.
write you later how was it.

    Great interview.
I wonder if he tought about condacting?
so much to say… , he is to smart to be a Bassplayer!
Mr. Tuneh if you read this; think about condacting.
(its not that you can not play, its just, i know some bass players &
they are not so smart nither good musions… So… .)
I will be tuned to hear more from you, stay great as you are.
