Christopher Still launches Honesty Pill podcast

Honesty Pill is the project of Christopher Still, a trumpet player with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Chris creates focused, actionable plans that help musicians and other creatives address the issues standing between them and their goals.

Chris has just launched the Honesty Pill podcast, and his first guest was Trevor Jones from The Scholarship Roadmap and also a member of the Contrabass Conversations team.

679: Ranaan Meyer on COVID-19 and staying positive

We’re all experiencing difficult times right now. 

Ranaan Meyer, my longtime friend and member of Time for Three, reached out to me this week, and we had an inspiring conversation about how we’re handling the current situation.

Ranaan has been on the podcast many times in the past, and I felt much better about what I can do to make the best of things after chatting with him.

We also featured music from Time for Three’s recent track Joy, which is fitting music for these current times.

Help make Walking the Changes happen on Kickstarter!

Documentary filmmaker and bassist Nick Wells has assembled footage from nearly 30 of the most well-known names in jazz bass, including Dave Holland, Larry Grenadier, Ron Carter, and Christian McBride into a new project called Walking the Changes.

Through the month of October, Nick is running a Kickstarter to take this mountain of footage and turn it into a completed film. The results are sure to be great, and there are all kinds of levels on which you can get involved.

599: Blake Hilley is in high gear

Blake Hilley just finished his freshman year at the Juilliard School, and he’s already done more than many people do during their entire undergraduate careers.  

Here are just a few of the projects he has accomplished in this short period of time:

He has also played with the Juilliard Orchestra, where he worked with Itzhak Perlman and many others, performed in the New Juilliard Ensemble, and has been studying with Albert Laszlo.

If Blake has done this much in just one year, I can’t wait to see what he accomplishes by the time he wraps up his undergraduate degree!
