My great friend and excellent double bass and viola da gamba performer and pedagogue Phillip W. Serna is the guest for this week’s episode of Contrabass Conversations. There is also a track from Eastman School of Music student and double bassist Scott Worthington titled ‘Disrepresentation’, plus some general bass news and music from Phillip himself.
CBC 5: Phillip Serna interview
CBC 4: Andrew Anderson interview
I had the great pleasure recently of doing an interview with Lyric Opera of Chicago and Grant Park Symphony Orchestra bassist Andrew Anderson. Andy gave a great interview on a variety of subjects.
In this first part of the interview we discuss Andy’s early years in music, the schools he attended, the type of gigs he played while in college, and advice on what auditions a student should take during school. Expect to hear much more from Andy in future podcasts.
CBC 3: Freelance Tips and Great Tracks
I just released episode 3 for Contrabass Conversations. You can always subscribe to Contrabass Conversations by visiting the website or clicking the button below. About 20 minutes into the episode there is a great jazz bass solo by Henning Sieverts.
CBC 2: Audition news and more
Episode 2 for Contrabass Conversations is now out! Subscribe to this podcast, or listen live here.
CBC 1: Welcome to the Show!
Yesterday I launched episode one of Contrabass Conversations. This is a project I have been planning for a long time. It will be a weekly 20-30 minute podcast devoted to all aspects of the double bass. Episodes will be released each Monday. Visit contrabassconversations.com for all information about this podcast.
My plan is to do interviews with double bassists from all walks of life, from professional orchestra players to students, educators, and amateur hobbyists. The first several guests will be from the Chicago metro area, but I will be expanding beyond Chicago within the first few months of this show and will be conducting phone and Skype interviews.
